Looking after office floors

Choose a routine that suits the material and the way people use the space.

Identify the surface

Record the flooring in each area and check the manufacturer’s care instructions. Carpet, timber, vinyl and natural stone can need different products, equipment and maintenance schedules.

Plan around foot traffic

Entrances and walkways may need more attention than spare meeting rooms. Schedule wet cleaning for quieter periods where possible. Restrict access to wet or drying floors and keep an alternative dry route available.

Keep routine and specialist work separate

Vacuuming and routine mopping are different from carpet extraction, stripping, sealing or restoration. Agree those specialist tasks separately, including drying time and when furniture can be returned.

Use the handover to prevent repeat problems

Report recurring spills, damaged edges and loose mats to the site contact. Record where a stain remains after routine cleaning so the next step can be agreed without using a more aggressive treatment on an unknown surface.
