Start with the collection arrangements
Ask your waste contractor which materials each stream accepts. Base labels on those instructions so staff and cleaners use the same categories.
Place bins where they are useful
Plan suitable collection points for desks, kitchens and shared areas. Keep access routes clear and agree how the cleaning team will move waste to the designated on-site collection point.
Agree supplies and ownership
Record who provides liners, who checks the bins and who reports an overflowing or contaminated stream. Keep confidential paper, electrical items and specialist waste outside the general cleaning routine.
Check what keeps going wrong
If the same bin is repeatedly used incorrectly, improve the label or location. Share a short update with staff and the cleaning team so the new arrangement is understood.
